4. The use of exhibition space to create meaning

Viewing a work in an exhibition space you would either feel more compelled or more accesible to analyse the piece. This is because in a gallery there are many people also examining pieces and there is a perception that most of them sophisticated points of view with educated opinions. Therefore as you analyse a piece you may either react by stringently analysing it and maybe causing your opinion to be led by the insecurity of looking inferior or different, otherwise you may feel comfortable with like-minded people who appreciate you giving your own opinion. If your a viewer with the latter attributes then the use exhibtion space can really add another dimension to a work. The space used can affect the dramatic scale, for example if a work was viewed in a bedroom it would have less dramatic scale where as if it were hung from a crane 1000 feet high it would have much higher dramatic scale. This dosent automatically affect the quality of the piece but if it adds more insight into what your trying to create then it adds more meaning to the piece.
